Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join our team. Reporting directly to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll & Benefits Specialist will be responsible the accurate and timely processing of payroll and administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, and short- and long-term disability insurance for Centerline’s clients. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of payroll processes and basic benefits knowledge, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality. The new team member will be instrumental in working collaboratively with the Accounting and HR departments.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates and in accordance with company policy, federal, state, and local laws
- Work with the Payroll Manager to implement effective audits of payroll data including rate changes, payroll deductions, shift differentials, adjustments, new hires, terminations, and all other related payroll transactions are completed accurately
- Track and deduct all garnishments and other special payroll deductions
- Maintain and validate accurate vacation and personal time off balances
- Coordinate efforts between payroll, human resources
- Support the Benefits specialist with the administration of 401(k) plans including, but not limited to:
- Processing 401K plan transactions
- Responding to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts
- Managing the annual catch-up contribution enrollment
- Ensure employee changes are entered correctly and made on a timely basis and reviews changes for proper authorization to stay in compliance with federal/state/local regulations
- Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions, and work with accounting and finance teams to entries are accurate
- Assist with year-end preparation, such as W2 and 1095-C forms, as well as various compliance reporting
- Provide superior customer service to vendors and other Centerline departments, peers, and management.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
requirements & qualifications
- Associate’s degree in HR or related field, but experience and/or other training/certification may be substituted for the education.
- Five years’ experience in HR and/or benefits administration and payroll administration.
- Must be proficient in one or more payroll software and HRIS systems; experience using ADP WFN & Paylocity preferred.
- Experience supporting multiple organizations at once, and experience with mergers & acquisitions is preferred
- Solid knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations, with the self-awareness and resourcefulness to know when additional expertise is needed
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential situations and have the ability to interface with people at varying levels of seniority both internally and externally
- Adaptable to changes in priorities and the ability to orchestrate the follow through on any pivot and evolution in priorities
- Commitment to proactivity, responsiveness, and thoughtful-yet-prompt action
- Proven collaborator who excels at sharing ideas and collaborating on a high energy team
- Proven interpersonal skills that build effective relationships with team members in a manner that fosters an environment of integrity and trust

- Ability to work well independently and in a team environment
- This position is based in our office and requires on-site presence during regular business hours. Remote or hybrid work arrangements are not available for this position.
